After 4 years of looking, below are my current updated notes for Richard Burton and his son John Pleasant Burton. I would very much like to hear from one of you direct ancestors, if you have something to add or a correction to recommend.

3/16/1741: John Scruggs, of Goochland Co, son of Richard Scruggs, of New Kent Co, to Robert Burton, the younger, son of Nowel Burton, of Goochland Co, for 20 pds, 200 acres on west side of Willis River, bounded by Robert Bernard, William Mayo, William Meginnis, Joseph Dabbs. Said land is upper 200 acres of 400 acres conveyed to Scruggs by Wm Mayo by deed 12 January last past; with all houses, etc. Wit: Rich'd Burton, William Hunt Allen, Fra. (X) Hill, Jos. Dabbs. 2/6/1743: Nowell Burton (father of Richard?) sold to Richard Burton, for 100 pds, 140 acres in Goochland Co, on Willis River, said tract part of 400 acres granted to said Nowell by patent on 1/28/1733. Wit: Hutchins Burton (uncle of Richard?), Edmund Gray, John Parmer (sic). Recorded in Goochland Co, VA Deed Book 5, page 002.
Mar 1743: Benjamin Harrison is appointed Surveyor of that part of the road of which Anthony Benninwas Surveyor, below Willis Creek. Ordered that the following persons do work on the road, Alex. Trent, Nowel Burton, Richard Burton, Robt. Bernard, Joshua Brock, Saml Allin Sr, John Allin, James Knott, Hugh Pruit, William Hudgens, Henry Pruit and Andrew Edwards. 9/20/1748: Richard Burton received a land patent for 400 acres in Augusta Co on the branches of Buffalo Creek (flows west to east into Maury River about 2 miles north of Town of Glascow in present-day Rockbridge Co, VA) joining Benjamin Borden. 7/14/1763: The Prisoner being set to the bar and being asked if he was guilty, said he was not guilty, whereupon David Garland, John Speed Jr, and Samuel Young, being examined as witnesses for the King against said Noel Burton, is guilty of passing bad money, but that he did not know the same to be bad, and ordered that the said Burton, of the charges aforesaid, be acquitted, upon the deposition of his son, Richard Burton. Supposedly, served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Captain Levin Joynes' Company, 9th Virginia Regiment of Foot commanded by Col. George Matterns (spelling could be Matthews). He served as John Burton. Record in office of Adjutant General-pension record. Source, Handwritten pedigree chart. Second, typed sources uses the Matthews spelling.
The company of Capt. Levin Joynes was raised 2/10/1776 in Accomack Co, VA.

Weaver's District, owning 250 acres on South Fork (area located in present-day Alleghany Co, NC just southwest of the Town of Piney Creek). William Reaves (30 acres) also appears in this district.
