I have never been to Rootsweb, so there is a lot? of catching up? to do, but here is another "story" from Ron Winkles of TN that I have never heard abt... WE do have the "story" that Wm. D. Trent (Sr.) of VA/TN had an "Indian mother" but there has never been proof of that! Now here is a story that HIS WIFE was related (some how) to native americans. I have never heard that story as she is/was either a white Burton by surname and md. a Wm. Osborne before she md. Wm. D.(Sr.)
Here in 2014 there seems to be coming forth some infor. and suggestions that her father & family were related by blood line to John Pleasant Burton, tho his middle name has been in doubt too. IF John P. Burton did have either a brother named JOHN or ROBERT that lived in the areas along the VA/NC state line in the now Grayson Co., VA area, I see no way that any of this "older story" on CHARITY BURTON/OSBORNE/TRENT could be true.
For far as I know none of these BURTON's were or married native american indians.....
"The Trents moved with the westward expansion in the mid 1700's to southwestern VA and from there into east TN. You need to look for them n Grayson, Henry and Pittsylvania Counties, VA. I know of a marriage by William Trent to a Charity Burton in Grayson Co., VA in 1795. Charity Burton was half Cherokee. Williamson(#1) Trent in the 1780's married a Mary Potts in Henry Co., VA, she was part indian."
