Hi Timothy,
Thanks for looking into this more for me.The 1860 Census record you refer to is something I had not seen before, and is likely the family I've been looking for.I'll have to look into this one more.
Isn't it odd how both of these Busey fellows served out of Cairo, Champaign County, Illinois, after both coming from down in the far South Eastern corner of Missouri before the war?
The newspaper reports you mentioned about horsethieving are worthy of looking into since there may be a court record with some more details...
What is your interest with the Busey family?I have been hoping for a decendent to pop up somewhere who might help with this family, and having some history with a criminal background in it would certainly explain some things historically for us.
I am related to Granderson's wife, Jane Gray. She is the sister of my direct line GG Grandfather, Eli Gray. She was the oldest (that we know of), and he was the youngest.Their Father, James B. Gray is the farthest link we can verify so far. With so much distance (abt 17 years) between Eli and Jane, there are a lot of family stories and information that is missing.James died when Eli was only 5 years old, so he had no information to pass on about his father. And after his time in the Civil War, I doubt he had room for too many of those memories.
Jane and Eli's mother was from a Quaker family, so there is plenty of information on that line, which gives me hope of having a family record that was passed down to the first daughter.
Jane and Eli had siblings...three other sisters and at least one other brother.
Well, thanks again for looking into this.
Richard Gray
