Obit of Elisha Pepper, Thursday, Aug 26, 1869. One of your oldest citizens who died on the 5th inst, regretted by all who knew him as a respected and useful citizen, was born in Greenbriar County, CA AD 1777 making him 92 yrs old. His father was killed by Indians when he was a boy, and his mother died about the same time, leaving him an orphan. He was taken then by some of his relatives to Boon or Rock Station, KY. in which State he lived until shortly before 1806- when his in company with Johnny Campbell and others moved to Alexandria, DeKalb Co, in this State. The party had to cut their way there through the woods. Mr Peppers married in Alexandria, in the year 1809, and in the fall or winter moved to his county, and settled upon the place where he recently died. His health had not been good for forty years past' and for 17 yrs he has not been able to go about at all. He has been walking in crutches for 12 yrs, the effect of a fall which dislocated his hip. End
