James Byars, Williamson/Maury/Marion counties in Tenn
I am descended from Robert Byas, born about 1813 in North Carolina, and died in Sequatchie County TN in 1860. I have been unable to connect to an exact father & mother in NC, but in 1836 in Marion County TN there is a JAMES BYARS on the Marion County tax rolls. Robert married Hulda Ewton about 1832/33 in Marion County when he was about 20 years old, so one of the names I have focused on is this James Byars. He does not appear on the 1830 or 1840 censuses in Marion or Bledsoe counties.
Therefore, I looked at JAMES BYARS who is in the census for Williamson County in 1830. He is between 40-50 years old and is o the right age to be Robert's father. Does anyone know anything more about this James Byars?
Also in 1830, in Maury county TN is a James F. Byars, and in 1820 (as Biers) and in 1860. The James F. Byars in Maury County TN in 1820, 1830, and 1860 all appear to be the same individual and he is about the same age as the James Byars in Williamson County in 1830. Are they related?
The proximity of the two counties makes me wonder.
This is my working thesis for how the guy in Williamson county could be the guy I am looking for. They move from NC sometime before 1830, perhaps even before 1820, and move to Williamson county. James then moves over into Marion County, where Robert meets Hulda, gets hitched, and when James and the others leave Marion county, Robert stays behind in Marion county. Robert's son, Caswell F. Byas, for some reason or other marries Tabitha jane Standifer in Nashville in 1854, and is in Hardemann County in western Tennessee on the 1860 census before moving back to the Sequatchie Valley in time to enlist in the Confederate Army in 1861 or 1862. I know that there was a Byas family in Henderson county and McNairy county that might be related. In fact, there is a Jonas byas in Henderson in 1870 whos has children almost named all the same as my ancestor Robert named his children.
I think that all of these Byars/Byas/Byers/Bias etc families in North Carolina are all related if we go back far enough, but exactly where the connection is next for my line, I need help.
