Re: William I Byars
I'm sure that the William Byars of Spartanburg has been documented in the book "Byars Family History" by Nell Byars Thaten. Her documents in her book are reasonable proof of that William.
There was another William Byars in Spartanburg Dist SC. and has a son named Nathan. This William went to Butts Co. GA
early and even sold Nathan some land in Butts Co. GA prior to his Nathan going to Butts Co. GA.
As for the Robert Byas in Lousiana, I also think he is the son of Nathan Byars (b.1746) and his first wife Drucilla Harelson. But we have no proof. The Harold Byars who bought his land in Tenn, was his brother. At least many of the Nathan Byars/Drucilla Harelson researchers believe they were brothers. As a matter of fact, none of the children of Nathan Byars and Drucilla Harelson are documented. His son by Delphy Logan, Jackson, is documented in the application for Nathan's Rev. War pension and the land Delphy received.
In the papers Drucilla filed in North Carolina in 1808 for a legal seperation, she said she had borne him ten children. At the time few divorces were granted in NC.Her papers were filed in Burke Co. NC.She also stated the trouble started in 1801 when her husband was in his cups, and would put her out of the home.I have a copy of this document.
From the beginning everyone used Franke's Affidavit or the Weiland papers as proof.Even Franke admitted in the papers he prepared for a lady to join the DAR on "Old Nathan's" sevice in the Rev. War, that he had not gone to some of the counties where they lived. No one had found the separation paper at that time.We believe Drucilla died just before Nathan legally married Delphy Logan, in 1819.Ladies who have gone into DAR on Franke's work are afraid that line will be closed because of lack of documentation.I believe that I am from Old Nathan(b 1746) through his son Nathan Jr.But in thirty years I have not been able to prove it.Some people think Nathan Jr. went to Butts Co. GA.I believe, but cannot prove, that he went first the TN, where so many of the unproven brothers and sisters went. Then to Lawrence Co. Ala. where my great great grandfather, also named Nathan is found on the 1850 Lawrence Co. Ala. census. His son, Daniel Webster Byarsmarried Nancy Tackitt. The family of Daniel Webster Byars was in Fannin Co. TX by 1860. Thank you for your Response. Hopefully one of these days these mysteries will be solved.
