Re: Codwise - Caddis Family Genealogy
Hi Gary.Sorry I did not respond sooner, we had a virus on the computer and I was not emailing anyone.
This family's name originally started as CODWISE and I have tracked this family name to Germantown, PA in 1701.The Alabama, USA CADDIS family changed the name from CODWISE to CADDIS sometime after 1860 and 1900.We do not know why.Martha Ann Barnes married James Codwise. They had one son (John M. Codwise) before James went to fight in the Civil War.James was injured at Vicksburg, MS and was released as a prisoner of the North in 1863.We have not yet been able to verify that James came home and fathered 3 more sons named William, Charles and Benjamin Franklin. We do know that the boys went by CODWISE for awhile and then the name was changed to CADDIS.John M. CADDIS married 4 or 5 times and I have not tracked down all of his children from these marriages. One of John M. CODWISE CADDIS's ex-wives and children spell the name CADDESS and this is mainly the Texas family line.
Have you done any research on your family? If so, how far did you get?How long has the CADDIS family been in Scotland and Great Britian?
Out of curiosity, what is your middle name?
Drop me a line at [email protected] was good hearing from you.I have an email address for a CADDIS teenager from the Albama, USA CADDIS family. He's also about 20, maybe you could chat.
