Re: Cafry Caffery Grawny - Oldcastle Co Meath 1815
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
Note 4 - Microfilms of parish church rcds are kept by the National Library of Ireland.
For Owen Cafry B 1846 +/- 1 yr, Oldcastle RC parish, Co. Meath, with a father forenamed James, I found 1 rcd.
For Cat(herine) Cafry B 1844 ditto, I found ditto.
For Mary Cafry B 1842 ditto, ditto.
For James Cafry M 1841 +/- 1 yr, Oldcastle RC parish, Co. Meath, I found 1 rcd, 1841.
For Mary Grawny M ditto, ditto.
For Mary Grawny B 1817 +/- 4 yrs, Co. Meath, with the father's forename unknown, I found 3 rcds: 1816 Kilskyre/Ballinlough, 1819 Oldcastle, and 1821 Clonmellon RC parishes. Father's respective forenames were Peter, Nicolas, and Bryan.
Possible siblings for Mary are Anne B 1830, Bridget 1836, Edward 1817, John 1822, and Margaret 1813 & 1827.
For James Cafry B 1815 ditto, I found 13 rcds. One was in 1815, Oldcastle RC parish. Father's forename was Connor.
Possible siblings for James are Catherine B 1809, and Owen 1812.
For Nicholas Grawny M 1815 +/- 4 yrs, Oldcastle RC parish, Co. Meath, I found 1 rcd in 1809.
For Connor Cafry M 1811 ditto, I found 1 rcd, 1808.
Views of the above rcds SHOULD show the parents' names as well as other info for both the B & M rcds. At each step, you can develop the data which will validate/invalidate the earlier generation's rcds.
I thank you and your ancestors for having found/preserved such good info abt your family's genealogy. I got a nice run with it.
Oldcastle RC parish B/M rcds began in 1789. I couldn't find any B rcds for either Nicholas or Con(nor) in the Co. Meath database within a relevant range.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
