Do you know when your grandfather was born?I see a Sydnay Charles Calf born in 1907 in Redruth, Cornwall, but he died in infancy. Same situation for another one born 1916. The following Sidney Calf born 1884 looks more likely though:
Sidney Calfb. Sept Quarter 1884 Truro vol 5c p 143. The official certificate (see below for ordering from the GRO) would give you his parents. We may be able to get them from the census, though:
In the 1891 census I see this family in Truro:
Henry Calf age 45 Tailor b. St Austell Emily? Calf age 42b. Truro Maud Emily Calf age 11b." Ernest Harry Calf age 8b." Sidney Calfage 6 - so born about 1885Truro Bessie ?Kelton Calf age 4b. Truro Frederick John Calf age 3b. Truro
in 1881 also in Truro, looks like the same family: Henry Calf age 35Tailorb St Austell Cornwall Emlyn Calf age 30Tailor's Wifeb. Truro Maude Calf age 1Daurb." Elfrida Calf age 1 weekDaurb." Hannah Calfage 59Mother widowb. St Austell
Does this look like your grandfather's family? There is a Sidney and an Ernest, but I don't know your grandfather's birthdate. There is also a marriage for a Henry Calf and an Emelyn Jacka in December Quarter 1878 Truro vol 5c page 241. You could order the certificate for this from the GRO and get the fathers of both Henry and Emelyn.
To do this online, go to www.GRO.gov.uk/GRO/content/certificate then click on "Order a Certificate Online Now", give them your email address and choose a password. When you get to the "Certificate Choice" page, click on the circle for "Marriage Certificate" and click on Yes for "Is the General Registration Office index known?. Then fill in 1878 for the year and click on Submit at the bottom of the page. The next page will ask you for your address, phone number etc and when you have filled that in go to the next page. When you are asked for the full index number, put in Truro 5c 241 (this is the registration district, the volume number and the page number, taken from FreeBMD). You will need a credit card to pay the 7 pounds for the official certificate.
