Hello Cliff & other Callicoatts My name is Scott Spencer My Great Great Grandfather was Robert Spencer, but I've found He went by several first names. Anyway back in 1843, In Yalobusha Co. Miss. He married an Eliza Callicoatte. Could she possibly be related to your clan I also noticed that you said that John Bailey was born in Montgomery Co. N.C. well that is where Robert was born, Anyway I have an excerp from a book I have the book is called "Desecendants of William Spencer of Montgomery Co. N.C." written by a Henry Rigby back in the 70's or 80's. Notice in this excerp there is a reference to Eliza and possibly her brother who's name was "Spencer C. Callicoatte". here's the excerp Roberson Spencer Once more Elijah's Estate Papers prove that he had a son Roberson. Earlier we had done some speculating about the possibility that Elijah's son was the Robert Spencer in Hunt Co. Texas. It now appears that Mrs. Free (one of the researchers for the book)has solved the probelm for us. She has found an index to marriages in in Yalobusha Co. Miss. Occurring prior to 1846 (The Yalobusha Pioneer, Vol. II, No. 2 Summer 1978, published by the Yalobusha County, Miss. Historical Society). It shows the marriage of a "Robertson" Spencer to an Eliza Callicoatte. Mrs. Free believes this was near where "Spencer C. & Salina (Spencer) Callicoatte were living in Mississippi, Salina being Roberson Spencers youngest Sister.
Anyway Cliff I was wondering if you have any of these people in you data. I would sure appreciate any help. Oh yeah also there was a George R. Spencer that showed up later in the 1860 census in Arkansas, living with Robert and his wife then (My Gr Gr. Grandmother) Rebecca, But this George was only 16years old and Rebecca was only 12 years older than him I suppose its possible she was his mother but I doubt it I'm more inclined to believe George was the son of Robert and Eliza. Do you have anything on this, and what happened to Eliza? Did she die shortly after their marriage? Do you know?
