I am interested in additional information that will corroborate an article from the Surry County, North Carolina Heritage Volume One.The article is "Seven Generations of Callaway -- Calloway Families", # 129.Here is what the article states:
"Francis Callaway (1716-) m. Frances Unknown, 2nd. m. Jane Unknown (prior to 1750) buried Wilkes Co, GA."
What other information can any one provide that Francis Callaway was indeed buried in Wilkes Co, GA?This Frances was from the Joseph line and all the Callaways I know of from Wilkes Co, GA are from the Peter lineage. That would make for an interesting connection as to why he went from Surry Co, NC to Wilkes Co, NC rather late in his life.
Here is another part of the article:
"Samuel Callaway (1755-1837) was born in Caroline Co, VA and died in Franklin Co, GA.His will is dated 1825, 12 years before his death at age 82......His wife Mary was alive at the time of his will.Their children were all born in Surry Co, NC."
This Samuel is the son of the above named Francis. The question here is does anyone have a transcript of this will or know of its origins?I have seen no evidence that Samuel moved to Franklin Co, GA or that area.If this is true it would be another case of a Callaway from the Joseph lineage moving toward the Callaways of the Peter lineage.
Can anyone help me here?Has any more information come to light since this article was written in the early 1980s or was it a simple typo of some sort?
