I'm trying to learn about Waighstill (Waitsell, Wainville)Calloway/Aldridge, mostly about his service in the Civil War.What I know about him is from John Preston Arthur's book, A History of Watauga County North Carolina, and from census reports, below.
in Arthur's Watauga, p. 188, he lives (c. 1915) near the Crossnore Post Office
Polly Johnson is Mary Marcus, as found in the 1860 census.
1860.Watauga.Valle Crucis Township, Valle Crucis Post Office Household #11 Waitsville Calaway 19 Mary Marcus 15 Lydia Holyfield 29 Tomphia 2
An Emeline Aldridge is mentioned in Arthur's book, p. 188, but Betsy's last two children were Benjamin and Waightsville, so I don't know where Emeline fits in.Emeline married Abram Johnson. It reports Betsy's children:"Waightstill, who married Polly Johnson and lives near Benjamin, and Emeline, who married Abram Johnson."p. 187 shows Betsy's children as Harrison, Tempe, Jane, Ellen, Benjamin, Waightstill, Emeline.Info. below seems more accurate:
1870isLyneville (Linville) Mitchell Co., NC Waitsell Calloway 26nc Polly (Mary) 25 nc Emmer 7 Sarah J 5 William 3 James 1
By1880they are in Toe River, Mitchell Co., NC the age for her is off and they are all calledAldridge. W(aitsell) Aldridge 37 Mary 33(36? 16 in 60 - 26 in 70 - 36 in 80) MaryE(mmer?) 16 Sarah J(ane)14 William M 13 James A. 11 Minerva 9 Benjamin 7
If someone knows about Waightstill's Civil War service, probably 58th regiment Company D, or 37th Company, Company E, I'd really appreciate it.
