Thomas Callaway & MaryBaker-Ashe N.C.
This is Baker researcher Jan Swart. A lot of family trees seem to indicate that Thomas Calloway b 1712 and who died in Ashe County N.C. in 1800 married a Mary Baker abt 1735-and that she was the daughter of my Robert Baker, whose family moved from Pa to Virginia abt 1742. Does anybody have thoughts on this? For a while I thought is was plausible since Thomas Callaway was early on in Halifax County, VA, right next to Prince Edward County where Mary Baker's family moved about 1740.
But son of Thomas Calloway, Elijah Calloway notes, shortly before he died indicates otherwise. In a note to Laman C. Draper he said that his mother, Mary, was a aunt to John Baker, Richard Baker, and the Rev. Andrew Baker. He goes on to tell about John Baker, Benjamin Cutbirth, and James Ward and thier trip to Kentucky.
See: Wisconsin Historical Publications Calendar, 1929 -Vol. III. Well, the brothers and sisters of my Mary Baker, don't have children with the names of John, Richard or Andrewso this Mary couldnt be their Aunt.
Has anybody yet discovered who this Mary Baker is who married Thomas Callaway about 1735?
