Christopher Calthorpe/1670's
Trying to find connection between Calthorpe and Cooper families.
York County Va. records -1665/1672- givesthis account of Christopher and Anne Calthorpe:
March 1668, List of estate of late deceased Col Christopher Calthorpe and of Anne Calthorpe, widow, dec'd, his late wife, in obedience to order of York Court, Jan 1667, to :James , Barbary, Elinoe and Anne Calthorpe. (List what goes to each of these 4 children)
In 1671, York County Va.:We, James Calthorpe of New Poquoson, York, Co, Gent., Barbary Calthorpe and Anne Calthorpe, spinsters, and Thomas Rugg, who lately married Elinor Calthorpe, have attained full age and have recieved our estate left to us by our late father and mother, Christopher and Anne Calthorpe, and release the Justices of this county from responsibility for the estate.Wit:Edmund Watts, Robert Everett:
James Calthorpe, Anne (A) Calthrope, Samuel Baker, Constant (C) Mathews: Barbary (W) Calthrope, Thomas (T) Rugg .
From Orders and Wills (1716-1729):
Calthorpe/Cooper- In the petition of Elizabeth Calthorpe, setting forth that Elizabeth as taken wife of Isles Cooper on her death this is her desire that the petitioner might have the care and bringing up of her four children had by former husband. And pray that they with their estates may be applied to him.Ordered that the said Isles Cooper by his attorney have here allowed him-until the next court to answer the said petition.
Next:The petition of Elizabeth Calthorpe for Isles Cooper for his ability to take into his care and custody the orphens of James Calthorpe and the aforementioned Isles is rodered that petitioner take said orphan children with their estates into his care and giving security for the limit as the law directs.
From this, it would seem that Elizabeth had married James Calthorpe and had four children, after his death, married to Isles Cooper, it is unknown as to the childrens names.
In my searching for the wives of Isles Cooper, Elizabeth , as mentioned above seems to be the first.Records of her death are recorded in York county in 1716.Isles second wife of record would be Susanna Sanders in 1717, she complaining that he deserted her shortly afterwards.
Does anyone have any records of what happened to the children of James and Elizabeth Calthorpe????
Records of Isles Cooper appear again after 1730 and 1740.
But no mention of Calthorpe children.
Later...Joyce
