this is a query based upon just the common use of the name gallatin. i am brickwalled in my search for the ancestry of my Thomas Calvert (mi C.). He was b c1784. He m Anna Ewing and they had issue: Thomas Clare (Clair) b 1803 Hugh Ewing Calvert b 1805 others.
Thomas Clare m Elizabeth Johnson and their eldest son was named Albert Gallatin b1830 who m Mary A. "polly" Cain. They are buried at the Calvert Cemetery on Brock Ridge, Wetzel Co WV. Albert was b Monongalia Co VA. I am looking for any clues to my line prior to Thomas. I have posted similarly before but have only 3 sources of info on who the ancestor of Thomas was. an Isaac, and Reason(resin,Rezin). Albert's son, John Ewing b 1856 m Martha Lemasters. His eldest son, Arthur Clay b 1876 was my grandfather.
The family used the name Colbert for a period of time and this shows in census data(VA and WV). I do not believe that my line is out of the Armagh line of Quaker Calverts but I am open to anything. Your Francis is from Reuben. What I was thinking since you now have posted this is there might be a commonality in family naming, having Gallatin in my line and also your George. Have you any inkling on this?
