I purchased the subject photo of a young man dressed in a U.S. Coast Guard uniform and standing on board the USCG Cutter "Itasca."The photo is inscribed across the front:
"Your Pal Geo. Calvin."
The cutter "Itasca" was named for a lake located in central Minnesota. This cutter was built in Oakland, CA, launched 16 Nov 1929, commissioned 12 Jul 1930, and decommissioned 30 May 1941.She was transferred to Great Britain under Lend Lease, returned to USCG on 23 Apr 1946, and sold for scrap on 28 Sep 1950.
