Re: Co Down Camocks 1700 -1800 Missing Link required
I am afraid i cannot help with your query. However my mother-in-law was a Cammock and we can trace her lineage back to a Thomas Cammock and Mary McAllister. They apparently moved from Ireland (probably County Down) to the Glasgow area during the 1840's (on 1851 census but not 1841). We have identified six children, all born in Ireland (Charles, Robert, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary & Thomas): It is possible that older children were left behind in Ireland. Thomas (snr) was apparently born about 1795 and died 3 Nov 1861. His death registration gives his father's name also as Thomas, and his mother as Catherine Wallace. Several branches of the family had connections with the cloth industry (tailors etc.)
Do any of these names match with any that you have found in your family ?
