Carolyn,
Thank you for your information on James Campbell, son of Gilbert. Yes, there are too many James Campbells in VA during that time! I'm sorry to say I don't have a marriage date for my Robert Simpson and Sarah. The James Campbell on the Will has agreed to post a bond of 500 pounds for Sarah; so he has to be some relation. Non-relatives just didn't do that sort of thing in those days. He may be a nephew of Sarah's, that would be a logical explanation. However, as you say, he might be a son of Patrick Campbell, as Arthur Campbell was a elder in the Presbyterian Church at Concord, VA. in Campbell Co. I have been trying to find out just who this James Campbell is without much success. Some researchers say he was married to Jane Mearns/Means and that he was first married to Ann Dinwiddie or Dunwoody. There are Dunwoodys on this will of mine, so that is one other explanation.
Do you have any information at all on Sarah, who was Gilbert Campbell's daughter?
Sincerely,
Bonnie
