Hello Ellen,
My 2nd great grandfather, Robert Simpson was born in VA, 12 Oct. 1774. He was the son of Robert Simpson and his wife, Sarah, who I believe is a Campbell. I have found so far, no real proof of this, but there is a "preponderance of evidence," that says that Sarah Simpson is a Campbell. Robert Simpson Sr's will in part says, "I give and bequeath my young mare to my youngest son, Robert Simson." He also gives a cow to Robert Jr.,"when he arrives at the age of maturity." At Court, Campbell Co.VA, June 6th, 1782, The Will was proved by the oaths John Willson and Owen Franklin. However, Sarah Simpson obtained letters of Administration on her husband's estate with the will annexed, giving security upon Sarah, together with James Fitzpatrick, (Sarah's son-in-law),JAMES CAMPBELL and William Simpson. Who, but a relative would post a bond for 200 pounds. Everything I have found, points to Sarah and James being brother and sister. These two could be the children of Gilbert Campbell, whose will was in Augusta Co.,VA in 1750. Gilbert names Sarah and James is his will.
Hope this helps some. If you have any information on these people, I would be most willing to hear it.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Simpson Valko
