Hi Glenda,
I am the 4th great granddaughter of Gilbert Campbell, who died 1750 in what is now Rockbridge Co. No, I don't have a copy of the will, only the abstract, which what you saw. George Campbell was the brother of Lettice Campbell, who was his sister. "Infant" in those days mean't someone underage, but George was apparently very near to being of age. As for Prudence Osran, Gilbert's wife, there is not such last name that I can find. Whoever read the Will the first time, misread her name. Scottish "P's" look very much like "O's" many times. After much digging, I think she is the daughter of Alexander Peden, the great Scots Presbyterian, who was born in Sorn, Ayrshire. This is only a guess at this time and needs more research. Gilbert Campbell and Prudence were probably married either in Northern Ireland or Pennsylvania. Gilbert lived on Conquidet Creek before removing to Virgina. He bought land in the Borden Grant in 1743.
Another cousin of mine and I are planning to hire a researcher in Scotland, after the first of the year to researh Gilbert's background. He is supposedly a descendant of Sir Archibald Campbell of Knockmellie, who are part of the Argyll Campbells.
Thank you for sharing about Gilbert's property. It's wonderful.
Hope this helps,
Sincerely,
Bonnie Simpson Valko
