Re: Catherine McKillop Canda - Chicago, ILL
I'm not sure there's a relationship directly here, but probably was some connection at some point way back in history....
My name is Carolyn (McKillop) Troiano and I'm the editor of a McKillop family newsletter in the US.My dad is Daniel McKillop IV, descended from McKillops who apparently left Ireland during the potato famine in the mid-1800s.I believe my great-great grandfather, Daniel McKillop I, was a sea captain from Larne, County Antrim. His wife was a schoolteacher, maiden name was Murphy.I understand many McKillops were blacksmiths in that area of the country. They were descended from the Scottish, who came to Ireland during the "Plantation Period", when the King of the Scots gave land grants to Scottish willing to relocate to Norther Ireland. So I guess we literally came into Ireland and displaced the Irish, unfortunately.
Can you give me any other background on this?I'm curious to know if you are related, and possibly how.
My dad is one of 12 siblings who were born in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NYC.He is now 78 years old, and 8 of the siblings are still alive and living on the USA East Coast.
Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your help!
