We just bought the former Canham home on Coleman Road in Barker, NY, from my father-in-law, Richard O'Grady. He bought it from a Mrs. Canham in 1969. There is so much character in this house - we love it! We are remodeling and rebuilding the front porch and found a glass jar with a note from Francis J. Canham, dated August 2, 1959, buried in the wall over the door. The note states that his son, George J. Canham of 36 Maynard Drive, Eggertsville, NY. rebuilt the porch at that time. A 1958 penny was included in the jar that the note was in. It's 51 years later and we will add our note and a new penny to the jar that we found. We will be certain to put the jar back when we close up the new wall. Hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed finding the note.
We also found a date in the concrete of the barn floor - December 1940. We believe that this was placed by the late Francis A. Canham when he built the barn, prior to his enlistment in the Army in WWII. He gave his life for America in Belgium. I am saving that section of floor in his memory.
