I read the Will of David Cannon Senr with much interest.
In the 1870 Newberry SC census, there is an African-American Cannon family living next door to David Cannon Senr's physician grandson, Dr. John Cannon. This African-American family is headed by Simon and Hennie Cannon. If one assumes that adjacent White/Black families sharing the same surname had a master/slave relationship pre-Civil War, then my family might be descended from the slaves mentioned in the David Cannon Senr Will.
Simon Cannon was born c. 1825.My family is descended from Simon and Hennie's daughter, Nola, and Nola's daughter, Alice.I am interested in any available information regarding David Cannon's slaveholdings, including from where he acquired them.
Thanks.
