Hi!I am working on a novel based on the lives of several of my ancestors in Franklin, Howard Co MO in the early to mid 1800s.In 1810, one William Canole appears in the list of those serving at Fort Hempstead. He was a blacksmith. Also on that list was Robert Wilds.
Mrs. Robert Wilds was Frances Fugett. They had married 1802 in Garrard Co KY, and had the first several of their eleven children there. They came to MO about 1808 with a large contingent of settlers, most of them Frances's Cooper, Brown, and Abbott cousins.William Canole probably was with this group, or joined them within two years.
Robert Wilds died in 1847 in Franklin, Howard Co MO.Frances remarried, to William Canole, in 1855.I find them in the 1860 census in New Franklin. With them was one of Frances's grand daughters, Elizabeth Shirley. There was also a young man, I think his name was Felix Canole.
I am looking for some family ledgends, stories, folklore, that kind of thing to incorporate into my story. While I am writing fiction, I do want to make the story realistic.I do not promise the Great American Novel, but would like to at least spin a good yarn.Do any Canole stories exist that you would care to see in print? Thanks for any help you can offer!
