Perhaps this will help someone with their Capps research. The first Capps were from England. His name was William Moss Capps. He was part of the London Company and favored by Englands King.He was shipwrecked in Barbados on his first trip. You wll find his name in Barbados records and also the name Penelope Capps. She has not been identified as being his daughter at this time. Also, the first William can be found in James City County, Virginia. There is also a listing of people that died there. On was Catherne Capps.Maiden name - Jarnigan - however, I have not seen proof that says this person was his wife.He had 3 sons that I know of:William, Robert and Richard.
They went back and forth to England several times. Each time they would bring people with them that wanted to settle inAmerica.
You will see the same names several times, however they are all the same family - they just sailed back and forth from England and back again bringing more settlers with them.
Robert you can find in Nasemond Co.It appears that his wife died and left him with one daughter - Mary.
However, not every Capps were descended from this group. There are a Capps family in Mechlenburg, N.C. in 1850 that were new arrivals to America and did not descend from the first William. You will find Capps spelled several ways.
Hope this helps someone.Oh, also, some claim that the first William's wife was a Sykes.I have not seen anything to document either name for his wife.Perhaps some one can fill in that part of Capps history for you.
