DNA - common Capra ancestry ?
All availlable documents indicate that the Cheevers line originated with a Roger Capra who resided in Normandy c. 1000.I am hoping to find a modern day Capra who has had their 'Y' DNA tested so we can make a comparison. There were many, many Normans went to Italy before and during the crusades (Roger II, King of Sicily for 64 years, was Norman.)
The name variation (Capra/Cheevers) exists because when Roger's son William went to Britain in 1066 his name changed from the latin([she?]goat)to the french Chievre then morphed to Chevers, then to Cheevers. There are now about 20 variations of the name.
I would be pleased to share my test results with any male Capra or Cheevers who has had their DNA tested or would like to have their DNA tested.A test at the 67 marker level would be best.
John Phillip (Phil) Cheevers
