The Caraballo surname comes from La Villa de Carballo, La Coruña, Galicia.
The surname extended to Asturias and Portugal, where it is spelled Carvalho. The first known Caraballo, "Señor de Caraballo" was Don Pedro Alvarez de Carballo, "Capitán General de Alcázar". It was originally spelled Carballo, ommiting the second the second "a".
The Caraballos in Puerto Rico were originally from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. My g-g-grand mother was a Caraballo. It would not surprise me if the Cuban Caraballos were from the same place, since the Spaniards seem to come from the same regions of Spain to the Caribbean Island.
