Re: Carl Otto Carlson, b. 27 Aug 1899, in West Haven, CT
I'm not connected to, nor am I researching, this family. However, you can follow his earlier life in the Swedish parish records by ordering microfilm from a Family History Center or by subscribing to the fee-based Genline site.
The record provided to you earlier (Emibas CD) says that Klas Otto left from page 55 in Tråvad parish in Skaraborg län (county). You can see that page if you subscribe to Genline. It can be found at this page on the Genline site. (You have to join and download the Genline Family Finder software and every scan of a page in the parish records has its own unique number.) These records are scans of the original handwriting in the Swedish church books.
The family in 1881-1896 consisted of these people(on this page; there may have been more in other years)
farm owner Karl Magnus Bengtsson (= son of Bengt something), born 21 May 1826 in Tråfva (perhaps an old spelling of Tråvad), died 21? February? 1882
wife (later widow) Stina Magnusdotter (= daughter of Magnus something), born 25? September 1831 in Önum?
(They married in 1862. I am not sure about that year, but if it is correct, I suspect that you will find more children in the early records of this type, and of course, in the parish birth records too. Children were usually born every couple of years or so.)
daughter Ida Augusta, born 22 September 1867? in Tråfva (Tråvad?), confirmed 1882, moved to a location I can't read in 1883 (but perhaps to page 260 of this particular churchbook. I don't have time to check.)
son Klas Otto, born 31 March 1872? in do (ditto; apparently Tråfva/Tråvad?), confirmed 1887, moved to a location obliterated by this line being crossed out on 17 October 1887; moving certificate #39? (There is a parish record book for moving out and another one for moving in, so this can be checked if you join Genline.); returned to parish from an unreadable location on 15 October 1888, certificate # 29; went to page 89?? in 1889; returned from page 89 in 1890; registered to go to N. Amerika ?/February 1891 (no certificate number but there should have been one)
daughter Anny Charlotta, born 5 August 1876 in do (ditto; see above), confirmed 1891
daughter Maja Kajsa, born 24 April 1859 in do (ditto; see above), moved to Essunga 15 November? 1888, certificate # 31; returned from an unreadable place 18? March? 1892, certificate # 12; registered to leave for N. Amerika 9? July 1892, certificate # 15 *
daughter Tilda Betty, born 4? January 1863 in do (ditto; see above), moved to an unreadable location on page 120???? in the parish in 1881 (no certificate number so it must be in the parish)
The Emibas CD shows an earlier emigration for Tilda Betty but she obviously returned to Sweden. She was listed as a piga = maid and the location she left from must have been that unreadable place I mentioned earlier.

The Sweden board is a good place to ask for more help with this person in Sweden.
