Hi - I found your forum while browsing for my own geneology (not much luck). Here is some information which might be relevant to you.
My mother's maiden name was Benney, and her family came from Falmouth in Cornwall. She was born in 1912, and her father John Herbert Leslie Benney married her mother Alice Solomon around 1900. Records I have before that are from the Solomon side of the family (also Cox), not the Benneys. He died (1935) before I was born, but I have a photo of him. The family account is that he was a gentle, patient man who treated his children equally well whether they were his own or by various other fathers which was apparently the case. He was an apothecary, I think. I never met my grandmother, who seems to have been a bit of a character, as indeed were her children, all now deceased.
My mother had a short marriage in the 1930s to a burglar, who reformed and wrote books using her maiden name as his pen name, Mark Benney. You occasionally see them in old book shops, but there's no direct relationship - my mothermarried my father in 1940. I was born in 1944.
Of course, it may not be the same Benney family, but if I am related to some of you, greetings, and I hope this slightly odd account, as I look at it, adds something to your records.
Best regards, Phil Goodwin
