Carman vs Carmean
Carman vs Carmean: Warning from Charles Walthall
In my research I have encountered much confusion of the names Carman, Carmine & Carmean, especially in Baltimore Co, MD & Ohio. It turns out they are two different families.
The CARMANS apparently descend from John Carman from Hempel Hempstead, Herts., Eng; d bef 15 Oct 1653 Hempstead, Long Island, who arrived Roxbury, Norfolk, Mass in 1631. The Carmans trace their ancestors back to John Carman/Karman b 1042 Surrey Co Eng, & even back to the time of Bede. But, as you research the family, you will encounter American Carmans from Ireland.
The CARMEANS apparently descend from John Cremeen who was born 1660 in Cork Co Ireland & died 1713 in Dorchester Co, MD, who arrived Taylors Island, Dorchester, MD in 1677. The Cremeen name variants include: Crimine, Creaman, Carmean & Carmine.
Question: Is it possible that a Carman moved to Ireland before 1660 & gave rise to theCarman & Carmean families that came from Ireland? Are the families related after all?
