I'm sharing the following to see if it sparks anything additional to this Forum. I've noted the Maryland and Ohio and Kansas elements already posted here, as well as the name "Sarah Jane" which may represent recyling of beloved names within the family. "Carmin" is possibly a shortened version of "Carmine". By the way, there are many towns called Carmine in Italy. The following is from a late genealogist relative of mine.
"Benjamin Carmin, [ancestor of Kevin Cosand Patton] born 1763 in Maryland, son of David William and Sarah Jane Williams Carmin. Married Elizabeth Chapman, 1790, born 1776 in Virginia. Elizabeth Chapman Carmin died December 18, 1836 and Benjamin Carmin died May 29, 1840 in Pike Twp., Clark Co., Ohio. They are buried in the Upper Honeycreek Cemetary, north of Christiansburg, Ohio."
"Benjamin Carmin came to Ohio from Frederick Co. Maryland in 1811. Was granted a tract of 80 acres to be surveyed between the Big and Little Miami Rivers. It was the extreme northwest section of Clark Co., Ohio on the Studebaker Road. Benjamin and Elizabeth Carmin, with their children, became early members of the Donnels-Creek Church of the Brethren. Their children when grown journeyed westward, some moving to Paulding Co. Ohio, while others joined the Brethren colonizations to Kansas, Dakotas and other western states."
