LeeAnn,
With an unusual name like Carnrike, we must be distant cousins. My line is traced back to Nicolaus and and Anna (Gerert) Gernreich.
So when I see a Carnrike query, I start looking. Here is what I came up with. I hope you are willing to exchange information.
In 1900 census I found a Blance E. Carnrike in Elm Creek Twp, Marshall Co, KS. She was b Apr 1895. The census says she was 15! (sic, extraneous ink mark?). She was the dau of William N. Carnrike, 32, b in Indiana, May 1868. Father b NY, mother b OH. He was married to Annie M., 25, b Sep 1873 in NY. Father b NY, mother b Germany. Blanche's father was said to be b IN and her mother in NY. Another son Marlin (or Martin) O, 2, b May 1898. John and Anna had been mar 8 years. She was the mother of 3 children and 2 were living.
Skip a household to find John Carnrike, b Aug 1835, 64, mar 38 yr, b OH, father b NY, mother b OH. He married for 38 years to Ann M., b OH, parents b OH. Mother of 6 children, and 5 living. Two children at home: George E., b Jan 1874, 26; and Edith A., b Aug 1876, 23.
In 1880 William Carnrike, 12, was living in Aboite Twp, Allen Co, IN. He was b IN, parents b OH. Son of John and Ann M. Siblings George E. and Annie E.
In 1870 William E Carnrike, 2, b IN, is living in Aboite Twp, Allen Co, IN, with John and Ann M. and Mary M., age 5. John and Ann were born in Ohio.

My Carnrike files are not as extensive as David's. I have one David, son of Gernenryk, s/o Johann Pieter, s/o Nicolaus. But there could have been other Davids who could have been the gf of John.
Following David's lead on Jacob, I found Jacob Carnruik (illeg - indexed by ancestry as Carmick) in Thorn Twp, Perry Co, OH, 50, b NY; Margret, 42, b OH; John, 24, b OH; Manerva, 16; Scott, 12; Frank, 10; George 6; Charity, 2.
In 1850 in Walnut Twp, Fairfield, OH, a Jacob Cornike (indexed by ancestry as Cornine) 42, b NY; Margaret, 32, b NY; John, 14, b OH; Francis (male), 1/12; Ira, 9; and Sarah, 4.
I found Olive B Knox in the 1930 census of San Diego, div, 34, b KS. Three children: George A., 12; Anna E., 10; Geraldine M., 8. Children b CA. Toward the top of this census page was Lawrence A. Carnrike, step-son, 24, b KS, father b IN, mother b NY. He was living with James F. Burcham, 65, married first at age 46, b MI, par b MI. Wife: Anna M., 55, mar first at age 18, b NY, fath b NY, moth b Switzerland. dau, JosephineF., Burcham, 16, b CA.
Well that ought to give you enough information to keep you busy for a couple of hours and should take you all the way back to Wurtemberg, Germany, in the last half of the 1600s.
It looks like Annie, George and Geraldine are my sixth cousins. If one of these are your parent then you and my children are 7th cousins, if one of these are your grandparent then you and my grandchildren are 8th cousins.
Can you fill me in on Olive and her descendants? I can do some digging on George Knox. I can't guarantee success, but I will do a couple of quick census searches.
Bill Wright
