Bob, I found this posted on the Kimbrell site and wanted to know if you think there is any truth in it.I know almost nothing about the Kimbrells or really the Cartee's .I am related through my Grandmother who was Vienne Alena Cantrell married to Jackson Edward Scruggs.Viennes father was David Lafoyte Cantrell married to Elizabeth Cartee - she was suppose to be the daughter of Willam James Cartee and Nancy Emaline Kimbrell or Emaline Nancy ( not sure which way that goes).
Here is the post- I am suspicious of this info at best: My ancestor, James William Kimbrell, is found in the same census (listed under William Armstrong) & living next door w/ Dave & Sallie Staples. James William is the product of a relationship between ? Armstrong & John Kimbrell. ? Armstrong was working for the Kimbrell family taking care of the children while Mrs. Kimbrell was pregnant. As the story goes... she evidently took care of Mr. Kimbrell pretty well also, because she ended up pregnant herself. She promised she would not press charges (she was a minor evidently) if he would allow the baby to carry the Kimbrell name. He agreed & she moved next door to the home of Dave & Sally Staples, where she delivered the baby & promptly left (never to be heard from again apparently). The only other thing that is known (?) is that she was originally from Hamilton, AL. There is also the rumor that she was at least partially American Indian. James William was raised with the name Armstrong because the Staples did not feel that he had a right to the Kimbrell name. It wasn't until he went into the Confederate Army (Co. H 24th AL Regt. Inf.) that he changed his last name over to Kimbrell. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
