Re: John Carter and Hannah Chew; and Bailey Carter
Paul,I beleive it is obvious that Mr. Miller made a mistake when he thought the Will of Joseph Carter in 1751 of Spotsylvania was that of his Joseph Carter and Catherine Stevens .I do however beleive that Joseph Carter and Catherine Stevens were from the Thomas Carter Jr. line BUT I beleive the Joseph Carter and Catherine in the will Miller refers to is actualy Joseph Carter born in 1704 to William Carter and Mary Goodloe Thus meaning their were Two Joseph Carter's that had wives named Catherine that had records in the Spotsylvania area and relatives this is probably why he made that mistake.I had listed some of the records from Middlesex and Spotsylvania that would seem to show that their is an error in that part about the will. Some of the children had Similar names.I beleive it is obvious from the Thomas Carter Prayer book of the similarity of names of the Children of Joseph and Catherine Stevens and the relation to the James Davis family and I do not beleive Mr. Miller fabricated that part or of the Deed record of 1739/40 of Joseph Carter and James Davis and James Stevens and about the slave Robin and the Seal they can be veiwed at the Virginia Historical Society as well as the Prayer book http://vhs3.vahistorical.org/cgi-bin/starfinder/9696/x.marc.txthttp://vhs3.vahistorical.org/cgi-bin/starfinder/9696/x.marc.txt
No original paper of Capt. Thomas Carter bearing his own seal has been found (he sealed his will with the Dale crest), but his grandson, Joseph Carter of Spotsylvania, in 1739 used a seal bearing the initials <;T. C." surmounted by a crest showing a demi-talbot out of a mural crown. This is one of the crests of the Kempston Carters and of Ancell Carter of London".

Paul, I do beleive you are correct about the George Carter and Frances Goodloe part in your other posting on the forum and that he was the son of George Carter and Elizabeth and this George was the son of William Carter but can you give me a brief description of how you think the line goes with the the John Carter's and Joseph Carter's of the William Carter Line and where is George Carter son of the Joseph Carter born 1704 and Catherine , and can you tell me the maiden name of George Carter's wife Elizabeth.I do know their son Henry was married to Elizabeth Proctor but was his mother also a Proctor ? and who do you beleive is the father of John Carter that was married to Sarah Kenyon.
