Re: JOHN CARTWRIGHT Will-Alabama-Rec.1839
Don't know if you've already found more data on the Cartwright you are researching, but thought I would offer tips---the naming of a son Hezekiah indicates that possiblly/probably the John Cartwright of Madison Co. Alabama is of the family of Cartwrights found in Wilson Co., TN--who previously came from Edgecombe Co., NC.(sons of John Cartwright who d. there in 1780, left will, etc. One of this earlier John's sons was named Hezekiah, and he as well as all the other sons of this early John Cartwright named more sons Hezekiah, etc. So there are a lot of Hezekiah Cartwrights, but all so far as I can determine came from this one original family.
Another branch of this family is mine, that of Thomas Cartwright of Blount Co., TN, all of whom moved eventually to Tippah Co., MS and then some of them moved on west, etc. They had ties to a Dowty family in Madison Co. Alabama and the Dowty/Dowdy family had ties to a Graves family, with some mention of an Evalina Cartwright who was guardian at one point of some of the other Cartwright children. So your John Cartwright of Madison Co. Alabama may have been of some connection to mine. If you have found more yourself on this family of Alabama, I would appreciate an exchange of info.
