Thanks for your reply.I have a book written by a SHARPE family researcher that says the following, this is where I determined my info from also from a cousin that had the candle stick, she is long gone now but I never had any doubts to her story, so now I am on my mission...
here is what was written... It is about my great great grandfather.
David Sharpe (my gggrandfather) and brother Daniel jr. always remained close brothers and still, in 1988 their descendants continue their friendships. When he was about three years of age his parents moved form Fairfield County OH to Adams County OH were he spent the remainder of his life.He married Sarah Davis Dec. 21, 1870.Sarah died Oct. 29, 1873 and David then married Frances J. Smalley.Frances' parents were Abner and Lucy (Cartwright) Smalley. While visiting the home of Sarah Alice (Sharpe) Longworth, four descendants of David shared the information that Lucy Smalley was the daughter of Peter Cartwright, a frontier American Methodist circuit rider and presiding elder. He was bon in 1785 to Justurian and Mary Cartwright.Justurian received a land grand of 466 and 2/3 acres in kentucky for services he performed in the Revolutionary War.The grandfather of Peter Cartwright was John Cartwright an early settler in Virginia. In 1824, Peter moved from Kentucky to Sangamon county, Illinois. He was twice elected to the Illinois State Legislature, but lost to Abraham Lincoln in 1846 in a contest for a Congressional seat. His Autobiograph is an interesting account of pioneer life, and also the book "Hoof Beats to Heaven" by S. Greenbie, 1889. He died in 1872.
I have not given it much research on my part just by what article I have from the newpaper and what my ancestors have written.
Do you have much info on Mary Susan 'lucy' ?Thank you !!!!
