ditto on everything i said before.My grandmother's grandmother was named Amalia Casanova who married Ioannis Haviaras. Amalia would have been born around 1850's and most likely in Chios Greece the family having been there since at least the 15-1600's..By the way Amalia had a sister Kalliope who married George Misiriotis.Kalliope's granddaughter is still alive and quite a young 56 (probably kalliope casanova had kids later in life and was much younger than her sister Amalia)
Scratch what I said about spanish/sephardic jew, i beleive the name is Genoan as I was told and because Chios was full of Genoans (and Venetians, etc) in the middle ages..
