Lawrence, I have some information dating back to Stephen Cash/Cass, born about 1760 in America, who settled near Lower River Settlement in Cape Breton Island in 1800.The 1818 Census shows that he has 4 children and his parents were listed as coming from America. He received a Crown Grant in 1812 within the Straits of Canso, listed as Stephen Cash, but the Crown Grant maps show the area a CASS Cove.
Stephen's son JOHN was born about 1800, which means he could have been born on Cape Breton. I have 2 sons listed for him, James CASS Sr. born abt. 1821 in River Inhabitants and Edward CASH/CASS born about 1825.
James CASS, Sr. married Ann ____.They had 7 children, including James Jr., Thomas, Alexander J, Joseph H., Mary Jane and Neal.I have this Joseph H. as your relative.
