Mary Catching, dau of John C. and Jane Warren Catching married Franklin Pomeroy in MO circa 1842.May and Franklin were in an 1845 wagon train guided by Sol Tetherow on the way to Oregon John Catching Sr. died before the train got under way.John Jr then became head of the household which then included his mother Jane.One of Mary's brothers was also in the train with his family.In Oregon, John married Margaret Wilson and Jane lived with them most of the time.Franklin Pomeroy and his two brothers in law Catching went to the gold rush in Calif. John C. took his family including his mother.In Calif. Franklin was murdered in an attempted holdup and his bro-in-law Benjamin was wounded.Benjamin returned to Tuality Co. Oregon Terr.Mary remained a widow for a short period then married Josiah Lingenfelter, who had also been on the wagon train.His name was later changed to Linn by act of the legislature.Mary died about 1850.Jane's other three sons came to Oregon on a wagon train in 1847.James and Ephraim were young and enlisted to fight the Cayuse war.Jane Warren Catching lived with her son John at Cow Creek (Riddle) Oregon until her death in 1866.She is buried in the Riddle Cemetery beside her son William.
Jane was the daughter of Robert Warren who served in the Virginia Line during the Revolution.John Catching was the son of Seymore and Rachel Thompson Catching.In a legal deposition in Tenn. John frequently refers to "my father Seymore".
Mary Catching Pomeroy Lingenfelter/Linn was my g-grandmother's sister.
