Re: Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire
Hi again Sandra
I couldn't reply direct as your email address was not shown when I clicked your name!
But hope you can email me direct as we have a real link here, and one of my other Catlow contacts (in Colorado)is also a descendant of Sarah Eyre and David Piffard!
I am descended from one of Priscilla's Catlow's brothers. We think that Jonathan Catlow, their father, came originally from Colne in Lancashire, and are currently trying to follow up a parish record of an adult baptism of Jonathan Catlow in Colne in 1721.Peter (the one from Colorado) has found a reference to Jonathan Catlow being 'of Colne' so we think we may have made a breakthrough with this one!
It is Grace Catlow nee Pickford (not Jonathan) who has the ancestry going back to the Middle Ages and beyond. As you say, there are links to many important families in Derbyshire and Yorkshire through the Pickford/Morewood marriage which in turn leads back to the Staffords and Eyres of Derbyshire.I was in Eyam a few weeks ago (just checking on the family estates, you understand ) and also the 15th century brasses of Robert Eyre and Joan Padley in Hathersage Church.
Once the line goes back to the Fitzwilliams and Clarells, then it all goes crazy with links to Edward I (through his daughter Joan of Acre), to one of Henry I's (illegit) children, and to William the Conq, the Vermandois family of Northern France, the Capets and even back to Charlemagne (not forgetting the kings of Scotland, Ireland and Wales). It is quite mindblowing.I gave up when I got to someone called Brioc the Viking!!
Look forward to heraing from you.
