Hi Marlene:
I have to admit, I have never seen the Ridgeway book and the correspondence I have had with Shirli leads me to believe she is quite complete in her research.
I tend to think she is correct and the Ridgeway book has confused the two Williams.
I think the William in Mercer county probably was George Dent's son, because if he were born in 1790, getting married about 1809 would be right on.
These are the children of George Dent and Nancy Hurley Caton, according to Shirli:
1.William W. Caton m. Nancy Ridgeway 1809 Mercer Co., KY. m. 2nd. Margaret (*Note: I have a Margaret Herrington m. a William Caton in Warren Co., KY 18 Dec. 1812.I don't know if this is the same William. This could be my line as the name Margaret runs in my family.Keep in mind, however, my William was b. 1798 and his father would have had to be named William and this would have had to be a least a second marriage. This might also be the William who was in Gallatin Co., KY 1810 census, which I think would make it an even better chance of being my line. Keep in mind Warren Co., KY is not that far from Henry Co., TN. ljdt)
2.Jemima Leah Caton m. Noah Caton (son of Jesse and Easter)(*Note:Noah later m. Francis McDermid after having one daughter with Jemima. ljdt)
3.Mary "Polly" Caton m. John Gray
4.Abel Caton m. Lively Herrington
5.John Caton m. Cassandra Whitehouse
6.Nancy Caton m. 1. Charles Gray 2. Hiram Kenley and 3. John Burton
7.George Caton (Note:No further information, however, he MAY be the one who ended up in MO early. ljdt)
8.Sarah "Sally" Caton m. Garton Petty
9.Emily Caton m. Elisha Lambert
10.Thomas Shelton Caton m. Roxanna R. Butler
11.Allison Hayden Caton m. Mary H. Kenley
MARLENE THIS IS IMPORTANT, what source was used in stating William died before 1813 in Mercer Co., KY, do you know?If you have more information for him, I would really like to know about it.--Linda
