More information on CATON's in the WBTS.
I found a George Walton Caton listed in the 12th VA CAV. with the following info.: born 3/4/1826, Laborer and boatman in Jefferson Co., illiterate, enlisted 3/17/1862 at Shepherdstown in Co. D as a private. Wounded in right ankle near Shepherdstown, WVA, July 1863.Was captured in Jefferson Co.,WVA 7/10/1863, Paroled at Baltimore, 8/23/1863, exchanged at City Point 8/24/1863, AWOL March & April 1864. No further military record. Buried at Elmwood Cem. Shepherdstown, WVA. He appears on the 1870 Census for WVA., but I have not found him on any others either before or after the WBTS.
Anyone having info on this soldier or any members of his family, I would appreciate exchanging such info.
Thanks in advance
Jim
