I should have some information on the decendents of Samuel Walker Catts at home.I'm at school, now.I've not looked at the information for years.I'm not a decendent of Samuel Walker Catts, but if we go back far enough, we have a common ancestor. Most, if not all, of the Catts families in the US can trace their ancestory back to either John Catts who came to Virginia around 1635 or to Michael who came around 1748.John Catts sold 400 acres of land at Hatfield Chase, England, and came to Virginia. The Michael, of whom I'm decended, came to America with his son in 1748 and settled in Maryland.Family history, as passed down from generation to generation, says we were Quakers and left England to escape religious persecution.John came straight to America; my ancestors went to Holland first. When my family arrived, the settled in the same general area as the other Catts families. In the 1830s, the family scattered into three areas. Some stayed in the Virginia, Maryland, and Deleware area, while others went to Alabama and Missouri. My branch came to Missouri and settled in Lawrence County near Mount Vernon. The Alabama branch settled near Pleasant Hill, Alabama, not far from Selma. The Catts who was governor of Florida from 1919 to 1923 was from the Alabama branch.I figured once that we were 6th cousins. At this time, I don't have time to look up and type out all the information that I have, but I will try to share it sometime.
