CATS/CATTS/KATTS in Michigan
I'm so happy to have found this forum. My line is now spelled Cotts and I have had quite a time finding any information. My husband's great grandfather was Edward Cornelius COTTS. He and his wife Minnie DANGREMOND lived in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan. From my research on the Dangremond line I learned that his parents were Louis COTTS and Everdina Cornelia EVERHART. I've been searching in that direction and haven't been able to find out anything. In searching Ottawa, Michigan marriage records I came across Lieuwe CATS marr to Everdina C. EVERHARD. YAY! From that I was able to find their family on several census records. Here is what I have been able to piece together so far:
Lieuwe CATS born Mar 1848 in Netherlands Immigrated 1868 into Indiana which would make sense since it is so close to the Holland and Grand Rapids areas of Michigan.
11 Feb 1873 in Holland, Ottawa, Michigan he married Everdina Cornelia EVERHARD born Jun 1851 in Netherlands.
The 1880 census for Holland, Ottawa, Michigan has Lieuwe C. CATS age 32, Everdina age 28, Jennie H.age 6, Henrietta age 4, and Edward C.age 5months.
The 1900 census has Louis KATTS or KOTTS b 1848, Everdena (can't read birth year) gave birth to 5 children and 5 living, Edward b Dec 1979, Everdina b Jul 1882, Louisa b Aug 1886.
Now that I know which direction to search in I am hoping that you people can help me fill in the blanks. I feel like I have finally broken through that brick wall, and I am so excited. There are plenty of CATS and CATTS in Michigan and I am hoping that we are related. I hope that this information was helpful. I am so excited about finally finding more information on this family.
