I am researching my Sands ancestors. An 1849 document reads "We do certify that Catherine Thorn and Mary Sands are now living in Queens County Gage Town 28 Jun 1849.Joseph Carle Joshua Calkin"
I was curious who Joshua 'Calkin' was and how he was connected to Mary Sands.Mary was the widow of the Loyalist Stephen Sands.AllMary's pension documents, including the one quoted, are online at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick website.
I found Joshua on the 1871 census living in Gagetown but I don't know anything else about him.Maybe he was simply a neighbor of Mary's in 1849 and testified to her place of residence so she would get her pension payment.
