Dennis, It's been 44 years since I was in Clovis. When my father was extremely ill with cancer in '63, I left Seattle after 2 years to help run his textile business in GA.A friend of mine was on his way to helicopter training and asked to ride to Las Vegas with me.He was shot down and killed two years later in Nam.Anyway, my stepmother had a cousin who bought cattle for the govt. and lived in Clovis. There are about ten or twelve stories in that trip.Maybe we can share them someday.
I came across a sheet today that, unfortunately, does not have any identification except page 339 of WHO'S WHO 1995 and the header name Chalmers. I will give you only the beginning info because much of it is a statement of credits: CHALKER OF WALLASEY, Baroness cr 1992 (life Peer), of Leigh-on-Sea in the County of Essex; Lynda Chalker; PC 1987; Minister of State, since 1986 and Minster for Overseas Development, since 1989, Foreign and Commonwealth Office; b 29 April 1942; d of late Sidney Henry James Bates and Marjorie Kathleen Randell; m 1st, 1967, Eric Robert Chalker (marr. diss. 1973); no c; 2nd, 1981, Clive Landa. There are numerous credits for memberships and publications. Her address at that time is given as Houseof Lords, SW1A OPW.
I started to contact her in 1997, but was fearful that since she didn't have Chalker blood, she might throw one of those publications at me.Guess it depends on how bad things were with the dissolution.Nevertheless, she might know some reliable sources of information.
My mailing address is 3606 Farm Land Court, Granbury, TX 76048.
I have tried to retire twice, but it just won't take.I can't keep still long enough.
Speaking of kicking yourself for not using good time for research, I lived in Augusta, GA for several years. My father was born in Gibson, Glascock, GA just down the road. Many of my relatives were alive, available, and knowledgeable. I was too busy working and having a good time.Youth does have some stumbling blocks.
I will make some copies of various items and get them in the mail to you.
