I am currently involved in the research of this Chancy/Chancey family line also, for a dear friend
who is from the line of John Leonard Chancey/Chancery.
John Leonard Chancey for some unknown reason started
using the spelling of Chancery instead of Chancey.
Sarah Ann Chancey (assumed to be the mother of John L.
and Miles A.) also is listed as Chancery in some census.
Miles Allen Chancey, the brother of John Leonard, never
changed the spelling of his name. Sarah Anne was listed
as Sarah Chance when she married B.B Kennedy.
It is noted in the family records passed down through the generations, that Miles Allen Chancey told his children
that "his parents died while he and his brother John Leonard were very young. Their Aunt Sarah took them to raise. Times became hard for Sarah to keep the two boys
together. She sent Miles to live with another Aunt
who lived in Florida. Miles came to Texas as a teenager, around the Tyler area. There was a few Chancy,Chancey's already in that area and Dempsy Chancey's son Solomon already lived there. Miles married Elizabeth Beal and moved his family to Hondo,Tx. Miles was a postmaster in Hondo. According to the U.S.P.S that have Miles records on file, Miles did not list a Mother or Father on those records.
We would desperately love to locate any documented proof
that shows who the parents of Miles Allen, Jefferson and
John Leonard Chancey actually are. If you have any leads
or information to share to help us solve this Chancy/Chancey mystery, it would be appreciated.
