Re: Samuel Tschappler born 1816 Bern Switzer
Samuel Tschappler bought 120 acres of farmland in Tuscarawas County (Ohio) just south of what is now Sugarcreek in 1834, and is listed in the 1850 Ohio census. Samuel's son (also Samuel) is listed in the 1860 Missouri census (Gasconade county) with his wife Susana (Klossner) and kids.
The Tschappler name has taken many variations since arrival in USA - Tschappaler, Chapler, Chappeler, Tschapler, Tscheppler, and Chappelear. In Kirchenthurnen, Switzerland, it is spelled Tschappeler
The Chappelear name is still in the Ohio region where Samuel first settled, (perhaps)indicating that some Tschapplers did not migrate to Missouri. A family story is that some of Tschapplers did go to Missouri from Ohio, but later returned to Ohio. (no documented proof of this Chappelear idea as yet)
