Requesting Help and Re: Mary Chappell & John Tomlinson
My line of Chappell family began in Montgomery and Frederick Co, MD.In 1790, my ancestor Thomas Chappell, previously of Maryland, moved with his wife Eleanor to Loudoun Co, Maryland. The family intermarried with the Slack family several times and eventually spread into Fauquierand Clark Counties.
My question to you (and anyone else who might possess useful information) is this: As a researcher of an apparently separate Chappell line (which began in Virginia after arriving to the colonies, instead of to Maryland like mine did), have you ever discovered a link between your line and mine? I am assuming they had a common ancestor in England or Virginia. The move to Virginia may have been only because of the creation of Washington, District of Columbia; however, it appears that Thomas had a relative in Loudoun Co, VA, perhaps an or a cousin through his father, Henry Chappelle, Sr.The Maryland line of Chappell family to which I refer goes like this:
Henry Chappell Sr., who may have been related somehow to the Andrew Chappell who arrived in the province of Maryland in 1634 (b. abt. 1716; d after 1788) and wife Euphane (b. abt. 1726 d. after 1783; and dau of Thomas Beall)of Frederick Co, West from the mouth of Rock Creek to Patuxent River, formerly Prince George's and then made into Montgomery Co, MD
Thomas Chappell (b. 1755 d. after 1833) and Eleanor (Harvey) Montgomery Co, MD > Leesburg, Loudoun Co, VA
James Moore Chappell (b. 1797 d after 1880)and Susan Virginia Eden (Slack) of Leesburg, Loudoun Co, MD > Berryville, Clark Co, VA
James William Chappelle (b. 1844 d. 1914) and Jane Elizabeth (Slack) of Leesburg, Loudoun Co, VA > Paris, Fauquier Co, VA
George Ernest Chappelle (b. 1879 d. 1948) and Ethel Maria Payne of Paris, Fauquier Co, VA > Washington, D.C.
George Ernest Chappelle was my paternal grandfather. I hyphenate my name because, otherwise, my father and uncle would be the last of my direct line to carry the Chappelle surname.
I'm stumped in my search to link Henry to the other Chappell lines.Any assistance would be much appreciated!
