John Thompson Charlton b.1826,Hull,Yorkshire
This man was the son of Thomas Charlton and Rebecca nee Thompson who were married 17th July 1825 at Selby,Yorkshire. He was baptised 21 June 1826 and had a sister Mary Ann Charton baptised 6 May 1828. He married Hannah Elizabeth Breeze 30 September 1850 t St Mary,Lambeth,Surrey. The couple move to Australia where John became a member of Victoria Parliament 1853-1854. He was a Surveyor and surveyed, laid out and named the town of Bundaberg in 1870. At one stage he was Editor of the Queensland Times at which time he used the name John Charlton Thompson.He had a sugar plantation called Rubyanna and after Hannah died in 1873 he moved to Sydney where he married Amelia Gowin Garrick in 1875.His signature on the marriage certificate is "John Charlton Thompson Charlton."A daughter Alice was known as both Charlton and Thompson. He died of consumption in Brisbane Hospital in 1878.I don't know if there were any children from his first marriage. His sister Mary Ann's married name was Sibley.
